Alagunachi Amman Temple of Pollachi was built in the early 16th century, by a group of people from Valliarachal, which located at a distance of 80 km from Pollachi. The temple was restored in 2002. Alagunachi Amman is a sacred deity (Kula Deivam) for clans hailing from Kongu Vellala Gounder community.

As per legends, people of Valliarachal came to Pollachi along with the statue of their family god ‘Arulmigu Alagunachi Amman’. They placed the statue nearby and rested on the bank of river and slept. In the morning, finding that the statue was not with them, they decided to build a temple at the same place and stayed there for honouring and taking care of the temple.
