Visited with local friends end December 2015. Very busy time but enjoyed an excellent visit. Extraordinary architecture dating back 4000 thousand years. Wonderfully and intricately carved from single pieces of stone. Look for the optical illusion of the lingum on the ceiling in the hall adjacent the Ganesha statue- interesting how it keeps perspective as you change the vowing angle Totally loved this temple. It's a great example of the temples in tamil nadu and is probably the best. The temple is heaving with visitors and you really get to feel the spirit of the place. Brightly painted and we'll looked after, it's definitely worth the visit One of the major temple of south India, lots of pilgrims but we had the feeling that we were also welcome. You need half day and you have to walk barefoot so a day with no sun it will be the best ( stones can get hot)
