Graz with its population of about 280,000 is Austria's second-largest city and is the capital of the federal state of Styria (Steiermark).
Graz is a university town (over 40,000 students) and also loved by international students. You have to see the old town and visit the world's largest museum of medival weapons, the Landeszeughaus. It has weapons and armor to suit 30,000 soldiers, most of it dating back to the 17th century. Walk up the Schlossberg, a 123 m high rock right in the middle of town, to see the beauty of this city from above. The Schlossberg Cave Railway is the longest grotto railway in Europe and winds around scenes from fairy tales. This is a good activity for those with children.
