Davao City is the richest city in the coutry outside Metro Manila and the sole entry in the Top Ten from Mindanao. Aside from serving as the de facto capital of Mindanao, it is also the island’s most populous city with 1.4 million people. Agriculture is the major economic driver of the city as it hosts the largest agricultural companies in the country which produces bananas, pineapples, coffee, coconut and the famed durian. Hence, Davao City deserves to be referred to as the “Fruit Basket of the Philippines.” The city is also Mindanao’s main industrial, commercial and trading hub.
