Though it is no longer in a state of emergency, which was declared by the military after it staged a coup in February 2021, the vast majority of Myanmar (previously Burma) is still off limits to visitors. The FCDO warns that conflict in the country remains increasingly volatile and that the security situation could suddenly worsen, so it's best that travelers keep their distance. Travel warnings and restrictions were in place even before the junta took control, due to what the UN called the "textbook ethnic cleansing" of Rohingya Muslims.
