The Channel Tunnel also called the Euro Tunnel is a rail link under
the English Channel between Cheriton near Folkestone, Kent, and
Coquelles near Calais. The Channel Tunnel is 50 km (31 mi) long, out of
which 39 km (24 mi) are underwater; it comprises two railway tunnels and
a service tunnel. The tunnel is one of the greatest civil engineering
projects of the 20th century and sees about 600 trains pass each
direction every day.
